Car shipping costs depend on distance, vehicle type, transport method (open or enclosed), and timing. On average, prices range from $500–$1,500. For the most accurate and competitive rate, use our instant quote tool or speak directly with a Ship My Ride transport specialist.
How long does it take to ship my car?
Transit time varies based on location and route. Short hauls may take 1–3 days, while cross-country shipments typically take 7–10 days. Ship My Ride provides real-time updates so you always know where your vehicle is and when it will arrive.
Can I transport personal items in my car?
Yes! You can ship up to 100 lbs. of personal belongings in the trunk or backseat. Just be sure items are securely packed and don’t obstruct the driver’s view. Please note that personal items are not covered by insurance.
Is my vehicle insured during transport?
Yes. All vehicles shipped with Ship My Ride are covered by the carrier’s cargo insurance while in transit. We only work with fully licensed, bonded, and insured drivers who meet strict FMCSA requirements. While your vehicle is in their care, their policy provides protection against damage caused by accidents, weather, or unforeseen events.
Need proof of coverage? We’re happy to provide a copy of the carrier’s insurance certificate before your vehicle is picked up.
What’s the difference between open and enclosed transport?
- Open transport is the most affordable and common option—ideal for standard vehicles.
- Enclosed transport offers maximum protection from weather and road debris, perfect for classic, luxury, or high-value vehicles.
Want added peace of mind? Ask us about enclosed shipping.
Do I need to be present for pickup and delivery?
In Most cases, yes. You or a trusted representative must be present to inspect and sign for the vehicle at both pickup and delivery. This ensures a clear record of your car’s condition.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking at least 2–4 weeks ahead for the best price and availability. Need last-minute transport? Ship My Ride offers expedited shipping options, too. Contact us for priority vehicle shipping

Yes! Ship My Ride provides true door-to-door vehicle shipping nationwide. We pick up and deliver your vehicle at the address you choose—home, office, dealership, port or auction site.
Convenience and transparency at every stop.
Is there a cancellation fee?
If you cancel before a carrier is assigned, there’s no cancellation fee. Once a driver is dispatched, a small fee may apply. Ship My Ride is always upfront about costs and policies—we keep it simple and honest.
What Factors affect the price of auto transport?
Several variables affect car shipping costs: distance, vehicle size/type, method (open vs. enclosed), pickup/delivery locations, seasonal demand, and how far in advance you book. Peak seasons, tight timelines, and specialty transports all can increase rates.
💡 Bonus Tip: Save by booking 2–4 weeks ahead, and choosing open transport when suitable.
Can I ship more than one vehicle at the same time?
Absolutely! Ship My Ride frequently handles multiple vehicles per shipment—from families moving multiple cars to dealerships and auction houses. We offer discounts for multiple vehicles on the same route to help you save.
What payment methods do you accept?
At Ship My Ride, payment is typically made in two parts:
- Initial Deposit (After Driver Is Dispatched):
Once a driver has been assigned to your shipment, a small deposit is required to secure the booking. This can be paid using any major credit or debit card, or via Zelle, Cash App, or Venmo upon request. - Remaining Balance (Due at Delivery):
The remaining balance is paid directly to the carrier upon delivery. Most drivers accept cash, and many also accept Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, or certified checks—however, accepted methods may vary by carrier. We’ll let you know the specific payment options available for your assigned driver prior to pickup.
💡 Need help arranging payment? Our team is happy to walk you through it step by step.
What happens if my pickup or delivery location is hard to access?
Many moving trucks are up to 75 feet long and may not reach tight or residential areas. If that’s the case, your driver will park as close as safely possible, and you can choose a nearby accessible location—like a shopping center or public lot—for pickup or drop-off.
How do I know if a transport company is legitimate and licensed?
Ship My Ride only works with carriers that hold valid FMCSA MC and USDOT numbers, are fully licensed, bonded, and insured. You can verify legitimacy through the Department of Transportation or request a copy of the carrier’s insurance certificate at any time for confirmation.
What should I do if my vehicle arrives damaged?
Upon delivery, both you and the driver will inspect the vehicle and complete a “Bill of Lading” condition report. If you find damage, document it immediately and notify us within 24 hours. You’ll be guided through the claims process using the carrier’s cargo insurance for resolution.
Can I ship my car if it's not running?
Yes, Ship My Ride can transport non-running or inoperable vehicles. We work with carriers equipped with winches and specialized equipment to safely load and unload vehicles that can’t be driven. Shipping a non-running car may cost slightly more due to the extra effort and equipment required, but it’s a common service. Whether your vehicle has mechanical issues or is a project car, we’ve got you covered with reliable, nationwide vehicle transport services.
